It looks like Thierry Henry is out as Monaco’s manager after just 20 games. The club announced on Wednesday that Henry is suspended, but according to ESPN, this is just a stopgap, and the 41-year-old is actually sacked.

Assistant Franck Passi is expected to serve as a temporary solution, but Monaco is reportedly looking to bring back Leonardo Jardim, the man whom Henry replaced. Jardim spent four years with the team, and brought them their first national championship in 17 years, but ended up being fired in October after a rough start of the season.

Although it was expected that Thierry Henry, who started his professional soccer career there, can bring fresh ideas to Monaco and inspire players, the team started playing even worse under him. Henry won only two out of 20 Ligue 1 games which left the club in the relegation zone, sitting at 19th place with just 15 points. The recent 3-1 loss to Ligue 2 side Metz in the French Cup was especially embarrassing and ended up forcing the front office to make a coaching change.

This short stint with Monaco was the first managerial experience for Thierry Henry. Prior to this, he coached Arsenal’s youth teams before joining the coaching staff of Belgium national team.
