Following his impressive performance for Sevilla last season, French striker Wissam Ben Yedder has secured a move to Ligue 1 giants Monaco on a five-year deal. The purchase, estimated at around €40 million, sees Monaco gain the firepower that they need following a disappointing 2018/19 season.

Finishing last season with a total of 18 goals, Ben Yedder was not only Sevilla’s top scorer for the season but also the 6th highest scorer in La Liga. He also enjoyed a standout performance on the European stage, with eight goals in eight appearances in the Europa League along with two goals and two assists in Europa League qualifying.

Ben Yedder’s transfer is but one of many for Monaco this transfer window, as the club have also acquired the services of winger Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid, Nigeria’s Henry Onyehuru from Everton, and new goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte from fellow Ligue 1 side Montpellier.

These transfers form part of the club’s rebuilding process following their unexpectedly poor showing last season, whereby they narrowly avoided relegation to Ligue 2 by a mere two points. In Champions League Group A, the side hailing from the Fontvieille district of Monaco managed just one point, scoring only two goals and conceding a colossal 14 last season.
