Mohamed Salah only needed 55 seconds to score in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against FC Midtjylland on Wednesday night. This was not only the fastest goal Liverpool had ever scored in the UEFA Champions League, but it also meant that Salah is now the club’s all-time leading scorer in this particular competition.

The goal came after one of Midtjylland’s players made a mistake and sent a short ball back to his own half. Salah was ready for this and managed to get to it first, emerging alone in front of Jesper Hansen and delivering a classy finish.

Salah now has 22 goals in Liverpool’s jersey in the UCL, which was enough to surpass club legend Steven Gerrard.

“It’s a great feeling to be the top scorer for the club, it’s something I’m proud of,” said Salah in a post-game press conference. “I need to keep going with that, score more goals, make the gap bigger between me and the others! I’m trying all the time to score goals to help the team to win games.”

Despite not winning the game against Midtjylland, Liverpool finished at the top of their group in the UEFA Champions League and will move on to the knockout stage.

Mohamed Salah is currently enjoying another prolific season with Liverpool, having already scored 12 goals and dishing three assists in 18 games. He has been particularly impressive in the Premier League, scoring nine goals in just 10 games.
