The 2020 edition of the MLB London Series, which was set to be held at West Ham’s Olympic Stadium on June 13th and 14th of this summer, will not take place due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that is affecting sports throughout the world.

MLB made their decision official in a press release that was released on Wednesday afternoon.

The 2020 edition of the series was set to be only the second regular season baseball event held in Europe. MLB’s first edition of the London Series took place last season, with the Red Sox and Yankees facing off at the same park.

This year’s series would have pitted the Chicago Cubs against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Due to the uncertainty regarding the calendar for the 2020 MLB season, which has been postponed, the league was simply unable to assure that the preparation for the series could be finished and the dates for the series could be guaranteed.

This is the third international series that Major League Baseball has been forced to cancel during the 2020 season. The scheduled April series in Mexico City and San Juan, Puerto Rico were also called off.

Hopefully, the league will have better luck with the 2021 editions of their international forays.
