We have a new WNBA champion. After being edged out in 2016 by the Los Angeles Sparks, Minnesota Lynx got their revenge in 2017 and took back the crown. With final series being tied, Lynx entered the game 5 with more confidence and grabbed a win with the final score on the board being 85 -76. This was Lynx’ 4th WNBA title since 2011. This way, the Lynx joined the Houston Comets as the only WNBA franchises with four championships.
For the 4th time in 7 seasons, the @MinnesotaLynx are #WNBA champions!

Although the entire team played exceptional basketball, Sylvia Fowles, Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen were the ones that pushed Lynx over the edge and towards the victory. This year’s regular season MVP Sylvia Fowles ended the game with 20 rebounds (WNBA finals record) and 17 points. For her amazing performance in the Finals, Fowles also received WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player honors. This meant she became the first player to have both regular season and finals MVP awards since Lauren Jackson in 2010.
“If I didn’t do anything else, I just wanted to make it my business to make sure I just go out there and rebound, and that was my downfall last year,” – said Fowles. “Like I said, I fell on the court, that haunted me for a long time after Game 5 last year. I just wanted to come in and I wanted to show my presence, and if that was rebounding, then rebounding it was.“
She was backed up by Maya Moore who added 18 points and 10 rebounds, while point guard Lindsay Whalen contributed with 17 points and 8 assists.
