Midfielder James Milner has signed a new one-year contract with Liverpool, keeping him at the Premier League club for another season.

Prior to signing his new contract, it appeared as if Milner was on course to leave the Reds as a free transfer during the summer due to his contract expiring at the end of June. Milne was Manager Jurgen Klopp’s plan for Milner that convinced the 36-year-old to remain at the club.

“An overriding feeling for me — and a vitally important one in the process — was the belief I can still contribute to the team. The gaffer was clear what he thought and that was a big factor in me extending my contract,” Milner stated.

While initially a regular starter for the team, Milner has been shifted to a more rotational role, appearing in 24 Premier League games for Liverpool. Despite a relative lack of gametime, Milner remains an integral member of the Liverpool squad, with Klopp referring to Milner’s leadership skills in the dressing room as a vital part of Liverpool’s success.

Milner joined Liverpool in 2015, signing from Manchester City for $15.40 million. Since arriving at the Reds, Milner has won an array of trophies, including the FA Cup, the English League Cup, the 2019/20 Premier League, and the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League.
