Miami Heat Finalize Max Five-Year Extension for Bam Adebayo

Bam Adebayo has agreed to a five-year maximum contract extension with the Miami Heat.

The deal is reportedly worth at least $163 million but contains an escalator clause that could bring the total all the way to $195 million over five years.

Adebayo still has to pass his physical before he signs the deal. The team expects that he will do so this week.

The deal is the biggest ever given out by the Heat, beating out the deal Miami star Jimmy Butler signed last year worth $141 million.

Adebayo still has one year left on his rookie contract, so he will only make $5.1 million this season before the extension kicks in for the 2021-2022 season.

The star big man had the best season of his career in 2020. He was named to the All-Star team for the first time and even won the skills competition at All-Star Weekend. Adebayo also made the NBA All-Defensive Team.

He averaged 15.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assisting last season.

Adebayo said this summer that his one financial goal in life was to be able to take care of his mother, who raised him on her own while working multiple jobs and living in a trailer.

Naturally, his first plan after signing the max extension will be to buy his mother a brand new home.
