It’s very rare to see division rivals getting involved in trades, but that’s what happened this week when the Miami Dolphins struck a deal with the New England Patriots, sending them wide receiver Isaiah Ford in return for a 7th-round pick in the 2022 draft.

The Patriots and their quarterback Cam Newton are in dire need of more weapons and just wide receivers in general. Their WR corps has been decimated by injury recently. Both Julian Edelman and Quincy Adeboyejo are on injured reserved currently.

New England also had another key receiver, Marquise Lee, opt out of the 2020 season.

Ford was a seventh-round pick in the 2017 draft. He has mostly been on the Dolphins practice squad and has only played in 15 games over the last two seasons.

He has 428 receiving yards on 41 passes caught and no touchdowns. However, he is still only 24 years old and could be a good role player for the Patriots, who need all the help they can get on offense currently.

Ford played in the Dolphins’ Week 1 loss to the Patriots, catching two balls for a total of 15 yards.

Miami is currently in second place in the AFC East with a 4-3 record while the Patriots are right behind them with a 2-5 record. They are scheduled to face off again on December 20.
