Inter Miami fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field on Wednesday night; a match that Lionel Messi had no involvement in. With just three games of the regular season to go, Miami’s chances of clinching a playoff spot are rapidly fading.
“Barcelona missed him, and the Argentine team missed him,” Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino said about the absent Messi. “Of course, we’re going to miss the best player in the world.”
Messi’s impact on his MLS team is undeniable, with Miami managing an impressive record of 8-0-4 in matches that Messi has played for the team. Without the Argentine World Cup winner, Miami has gone 1-3-2 in six games since he arrived at the club from PSG.
Since September’s international break, Messi has struggled with a recurring leg injury. While he started his team’s 4-0 victory over Toronto FC, his injury fired up again, forcing him off the pitch in the first half.
