After weeks of speculation and rumors, Dutch international center back Matthijs de Ligt confirmed on Tuesday that he will sign for Italian giants Juventus.

The team announced de Ligt’s arrival via private jet in Turin, where he underwent physicals and signed his official contract to join Juve on Wednesday morning.

De Ligt burst onto the world stage as a crucial part of Ajax’s stunning run to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. At only 19 years old, he is already considered to be one of the best defenders in the world.

The center back debuted for Ajax’s senior team in 2016, just after his 17th birthday, and became the youngest player to ever feature in a European final when Ajax played Manchester United in the 2017 UEFA Europa League final.

In December of last year, he added the Golden Boy Award as the world’s most promising young soccer player to his collection of awards. As a teenager who’s already considered to have no weaknesses in his game, it’s no surprise that he became the first-ever defender to win the award.

Now, he will join one of Europe’s giants and look to win both Serie A and the Champions League with Juve next season.
