WTA World Number 8 Maria Sakkari will replace Karolina Muchova at the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, tour officials confirmed. This comes after Muchova withdrew due to a right wrist injury. Muchova had qualified for the season-ending tournament after reaching the Cincinnati final and the US Open semifinal.

“Together with the team and doctors we tried everything till the last moment to resolve my wrist injury,” Muchova explained. “Unfortunately, the time needed for the recovery is longer than we would’ve hoped for and therefore I had to make this unpleasant decision.”

As a result, Sakkari will be competing in her third consecutive WTA Finals. The Greek player will be joined by world number one Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Marketa Vondrousova, and Ons Jabeur.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
