Turkish side Fenerbahce is looking to give its new head coach, Jose Mourinho, another impactful player in Manchester United’s forward Antony. But it appears the Brazil international isn’t interested in leaving Old Trafford.
According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Antony is pushing hard against the possibility of going to Turkey. While he recognizes that he might not get regular playing time with Man United, he still would like to remain with the Premier League side and fight for his place in the lineup.
Fenerbahce was expected to make a formal approach for Antony ahead of Friday’s closing of the summer transfer window in Turkey. It would likely be a loan move.
Manchester United’s head coach Erik ten Hag, who advocated for the club to acquire Antony in 2022 for £82 million after the two worked together with Ajax, would also like to see the player stay put. While he gave Antony just one minute of playing time this season, ten Hag believes losing him would severely affect the squad’s depth, especially after Jadon Sancho’s exit.
Since joining the club, Antony failed to justify the hefty transfer fee paid for him and is already considered a bust by many Man United fans. In the previous two seasons, the 24-year-old Brazilian played 83 games in all competitions and only has 11 goals and five assists to show for.
