Manchester United is in the process of carrying out mass layoffs as part of an organizational overhaul. The move comes as new co-owners INEOS seek to cut costs since assuming a 25% stake in the club in February. INEOS, led by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is looking to make 250 job cuts during this process.
As Man United embarks on their pre-season tour of the US, defender Jonny Evans decided to share his perspective on the ongoing redundancies at the club. “A lot of people have lost their jobs their last couple of weeks, it’s been hard and difficult to see,” Evans explained. “The new owners feel that’s the direction that they want to go. But, you know, it’s not been easy for everyone at the same time.”
Currently enjoying his second spell at the club, Evans has strong ties to Man United both on and off the pitch. The veteran defender’s wife, Helen, works for the club’s in-house television channel, MUTV, while his brother Corry plays for United as well. Evans’ father, Jackie, previously worked as a coach at the United Academy. While a major talking point among United players, Evans confirmed that the job cuts will not affect players and first-team staff.
