The Red Devils’ erratic start to the 2019-20 Premier League season continues following a 2-0 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium. Despite being the underdogs going into the match, the London-based side used their superior shot accuracy to their advantage by putting away goals in both halves.

With the side’s being well-balanced from the start, it was anyone’s game until midfielder Andriy Yarmolenko put the Hammers in the lead in the 44th minute. After the break, the match remained competitive, with both sides struggling to truly break down their opponents’ defense.

It was ultimately Ashley Young’s mistimed tackle that gifted West Ham a freekick, which Aaron Creswell struck into the top right hand corner to extend the home side’s lead. 84 minutes were up and Manchester United found themselves in too large a deficit with too little time to stage a comeback.

This result saw Manchester United drop down to seventh place, a disappointing outcome following their 1-0 win over third-placed Leicester City. West Ham United, on the other hand, has been boosted to fourth place and are now tied on points with Leicester while trailing second-placed Man City by just two points.
