Premier League powerhouse Manchester United is having a crisis at the worst possible moment. By suffering a shocking 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday, United fell to fourth place in the standings and might be in danger of missing out on a UEFA Champions League spot if their bad performances continue.

Recognizing that things need to change if the club wants to get back to winning ways, Man Utd held a players-only meeting in order to shake things up.

“I’m not going to go too much into that, but the players had a bit of a chat in the changing room after with no staff around,” left-back Luke Shaw told Sky Sports. “Because it’s down to us players on the pitch, and it was nowhere near good enough.”

Shaw also added that the way the team played was “unacceptable” and that they “deserved to lose.”

Manager Erik Ten Hag was also critical of his players’ performance, saying that the opposing team wanted the win more than they did.

“I hate to say it, but they were better today — especially their determination, passion, and desire. They wanted to win more so they won,” Ten Hag said.

Manchester United has now failed to win in three straight games in the league, a run that also included a 7-0 loss to Liverpool. They are now only one point in front of Tottenham Hotspur at No.5 although they do have one game in hand compared to the London club.
