Premier League powerhouse Manchester United and Wrexham AFC, a National League side owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will play against each other in the United States this summer. According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, United, and Wrexham are expected to square off in July in San Diego as part of their preseason tour.

Reportedly, Wrexham is also in talks to play another Premier League club, Chelsea, during their U.S. tour.

After the reports came out, Wrexham issued an official statement confirming plans to play in the United States this summer. However, the Welsh club reiterated that the plans had not been finalized yet.

“We would advise fans against making any arrangements to travel to the games based on speculation to avoid disappointment,” Wrexham’s statement concluded.

Despite having a rich soccer history, Wrexham AFC was virtually unknown outside the UK until Reynolds and McElhenney decided to purchase the club in 2020. The acquisition significantly raised Wrexham’s profile, especially after they were included in the FIFA 2022 video game and made part of the FX’s docuseries Welcome to Wrexham.

Wrexham is currently playing in the National League, the fifth tier of the English soccer league system. They are currently second in the standings, two points behind Notts County and the automatic promotion to EFL League Two.
