Manchester City has suffered a big blow in their quest to win fifth straight Premier League title. City’s star midfielder Rodri is set to be sidelined “for a long time” due to a knee injury, according to the club’s manager Pep Guardiola.

Rodri initially got hurt during Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal. He went to the ground in the 21st minute of the match after a duel with Thomas Partey and needed help to get off the field before being substituted.

While City didn’t provide details about Rodri’s condition, multiple reports indicate that the Spanish midfielder is dealing with a torn ACL. He is currently in Spain, where he will undergo surgery.

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Guardiola said that it still remains to be seen what type of surgery Rodri will opt for.

“He will be out for a long time,” said Guardiola. “But there are some opinions that it will be less than we expect. Right now I cannot tell you. We are waiting for the last phone calls and the type of surgery he needs. Tonight or tomorrow we know.”

If Rodri undergoes a standard procedure for a torn ACL, he is expected to be out for up to eight months.

The game against Arsenal was only Rodri’s third appearance in the 2024-25 season, as he missed the start of the campaign dealing with a hamstring injury.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
