In a season that has taken a turn for the worse for Chelsea, they may have hit their low point with a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Pep Guardiola’s men scored early and often against the Blues at Ethiad Stadium, leaving Chelsea dejected and distraught after their worst loss in any competition since 1991.
The game was over in a matter of minutes yesterday, as Manchester City opened the scoring in the 4th minute after a Raheem Sterling goal. Sergio Agüero added two more before the 20th minute to make it 3-0, and the floodgates were open.
Agüero lead the onslaught for Manchester City, scoring a hat-trick. One of the goals was a rocket from outside of the box that beat Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s outstretched hand, and will certainly go down as one of the goals of the year.
Sterling added one more goal in the second half to his tally for a total of two, and midfielder İlkay Gündoğan also notched a goal for City.
The 6-0 win was the second time this Premier League season that City have scored six goals in a victory.
Chelsea will now be tasked with getting past their demoralizing loss on Sunday, as they have a Europa League date at Malmö FF coming up on Thursday.
Man City now sits tied for 1st place in the Premier League with a total of 65 points, albeit with one more game played than the team with which they are even, Liverpool.
