Uruguayan veteran striker Edinson Cavani played well for Manchester United since signing a one-year contract with the club in the offseason. Cavani provided the team with a reliable option at the front while scoring four goals and providing two assists in 13 games in 2020-21.

Cavani’s good performances have helped Man Utd make a great run in the Premier League and impressed manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer in the process. As a matter of fact, Solskajer is so pleased with the 33-year-old player that he wants to keep him past this season.

Speaking with reporters on Sunday, Solskajer confirmed that the club is already looking into the possibility of extending Cavani’s stay at Old Trafford. The player’s contract contains an option for 2021-22, and it appears that Man Utd is close to activating it.

“At the moment, it looks like he has a few years left in him, so I wouldn’t say anything else,” said Solskjaer. “He has made a great impact when he has come here… Even at the age he is now he is one of the fittest players we have got.”

Since arriving to the Premier League, Cavani has made just four starts and did most of his damage from the bench. But according to Solskajer, Cavani is trending towards a starting role for United.

“He will probably start more games than he will not start.” he added.

Manchester United are in the midst of a nine-game unbeaten run and are currently sitting at the No. 4 spot in the Premier League with one match less than their rivals at the top of the standings.

If they beat the Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next game, they can take second place and be just two points behind Liverpool.
