Manchester United is set to begin a widespread clear-out of its defensive players ahead of the start of the new Premier League season. This comes after the club welcomed the signing of left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and Ajax center-back Lisandro Martinez earlier during the transfer window.

Fullback Alex Telles is the first player that is expected to depart, albeit on a season-long loan to La Liga side Sevilla. Telles is a surplus to the Red Devils’ fullback requirements, with Malacia and fellow left-back Luke Shaw among those who are competing for a spot in the starting eleven.

With two years left on his Man Utd contract, Telles found himself being shifted to both the center-back and midfield positions during Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

Center-back Eric Bailly is expected to be the next player to leave Old Trafford, with Sevilla and Roma both registering an interest in the player. Bailly’s contract with the club lasts until 2024, at which point he’ll have the option of a one-year extension. Other players who the club is prepared to part ways with include Axel Tuanzebe, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, and Brandon Williams.
