Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly wants central midfielder Casemiro and defender Raphael Varane to remain at the club at least until the end of the season, a source confirmed. This follows rumors of both players’ potential departures from Old Trafford during the upcoming transfer window in January.
Casemiro has been sidelined through injury over the past two months and is only expected to return in January, while Varane has only recently regained his place in the starting lineup following his own injury concerns. Although Ten Hag is willing to reduce his squad size as the team’s schedule gets quieter following their UEFA Champions League elimination, it’s believed that Casemiro and Varane are not among the players he is willing to part ways with. Donny van de Beek has been loaned out to Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of the season, while Jadon Sancho is expected to depart following his fallout with Ten Hag.
Should Casemiro and Varane choose to leave, then Ten Hag may have no choice other than to turn to the transfer market to sign replacements. Still, he will need to remain compliant with Financial Fair Play rules so as to avoid any unnecessary penalties.
