Manchester United has managed to keep their hopes of progressing from the UEFA Champions League group stage alive after managing a 1-0 win over F.C. Copenhagen at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. The Red Devils lost both of their first two group stage matches against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

In what Man United manager Erik ten Hag branded as a “narrow escape”, defender Harry Maguire scored with a header in the 72nd minute to hand the home side the win. While goalkeeper Andre Onana had suffered a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, he emerged as United’s hero on the night when he saved a penalty in the 97th minute to hand his team the three points.

“The first half was not good,” Ten Hag acknowledged. “The second half was better and we created more chances and finally the win was justified, but it was a narrow escape.” With this win, United have moved from fourth place in Group A to third and are within touching distance of second-placed Galatasaray, who lead them by a single point with three games left to play.
