Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is expected to offload a significant number of players during the January transfer window, sources claimed late Wednesday. This comes after Man United were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League after coming last in Group A. As a result, United now have only the Premier League and FA Cup to compete in.
Given the looser schedule compared to last season, Ten Hag has expressed a willingness to operate with a smaller squad, particularly as he looks to dispose of players who have caused controversy at the club. Since his fallout with Ten Hag in August, winger Jadon Sancho has been exiled from the first team, with his departure from the club widely believed to be inevitable.
Donny van de Beek is also expected to depart the club after playing just twice this season, with interest in the midfielder reportedly coming from Italy and Spain. While United are believed to be open to permanent offers, a loan deal is also believed to be open for consideration. Sergio Reguilon, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, may be sent back to his parent club in January depending on the availability of alternative left-backs such as Tyrell Malacia, who is currently injured.
