Manchester United lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in their final Group A game in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. This defeat sees Man United finish last in the group, resulting in their elimination from the tournament while also losing the opportunity to qualify for the Europa League as would have been the case if they finished third.

“We didn’t make it, we have to accept and learn from it,” Man United manager Erik ten Hag admitted. “We made mistakes. Today the performance was very good. We didn’t deserve to lose but we lost the game. In the end, it’s not good enough.” Although United were able to keep the visitors under pressure for much of the game, they were unable to exhibit any firepower up front, resulting in their second consecutive match without scoring a goal.

Following this defeat, United managed to amass just four points in six Champions League games, winning one game against FC Copenhagen at home and drawing away at Galatasaray. This is the first time in the club’s history that they lost four group games in a single season.
