Manchester United has reportedly accepted a £30 million ($38 million) offer for center-back Harry Maguire from West Ham.

According to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano, West Ham is expected to enter contract negotiations with Maguire soon. The transfer is not yet close to being completed, as the 30-year-old England international is still unsure whether he wants to join the Hammers.

Man United’s head coach Erik Ten Hag has already told Maguire earlier this offseason that he will have a hard time cracking the starting lineup. The player reportedly would prefer to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the team but knows that the lack of playing time might cost him a spot with the England national team.

Harry Maguire still holds the title of world’s most expensive defender after he made a £80 million move from Leicester City to Manchester United in 2019. However, the move didn’t work out the way the Premier League powerhouse expected, as Maguire was error-prone and never brought the expected stability to the defense.

Maguire lost his place in the team last season, making only eight Premier League starts. He was also replaced as the team’s captain earlier this summer, which indicated that Manchester United is ready to move on.
