Despite the fact that the 2018/19 season is still far from over, Premier League giants Manchester City are already working on improving their team for the next one. According to Goal, City will make a move for Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez Rodri in the summer as they see the 22-year-old a perfect replacement for the 33-year-old Brazilian Fernandinho.
Man City wouldn’t mind spending big to get Rodri on their team, and are prepared to activate his $80 million buyout clause. The player himself reportedly would mind moving to England as well.
The team’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain further fueled these rumors on Tuesday when he attended Atletico Madrid’s clash with Girona in which the Spanish international had another impressive performance.
There are several other European clubs that are interested in Rodri as well, but City will probably be the most aggressive as they have missed on several key targets in the past year Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong and Chelsea’s Jorginho.
Rodri played 26 games with Atletico this season in which he provided two goals. He also added eight appearances in Champions League.
However, in case that they fail to get Rodri, Manchester City has several other names on their board including West Ham’s Declan Rice and Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele.
The team is also on the market to get a forward and is reportedly keen on Eintracht Frankfurt’s Luka Jovic and Benfica’s Joao Felix.
