Manchester City had a quiet summer transfer window so far, but that is all about to change. According to multiple reports, the reigning Premier League champions are finalizing a €90 million transfer for RB Leipzig’s star center back Josko Gvardiol.

City and Leipzig have a few minor details to settle, with Gvardiol already agreeing to personal terms with his new club. The 21-year-old Croatian is expected to undergo his medical by the end of the week.

Gvardiol has been on Man City’s radar for some time now, but the English club was initially hesitant to match RB Leipzig’s price of €100 million. However, with City’s manager Pep Guardiola pushing for the deal to be made, the two sides have managed to reach a compromise.

The deal will make Gvardiol the second-most-expensive defender of all time, trailing only Harry Maguire, who arrived at Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million.

Josko Gvardiol made his professional debut with his hometown club of Dinamo Zagreb in 2019 as a 17-year-old. He secured a transfer to RB Leipzig in 2021 and has played 88 games with the Bundesliga side in all competitions in the past two seasons. Gvardiol is also a member of Croatia’s national team, helping the country finish third at the 2022 World Cup.
