Orlando Magic still believe that they will manage to resurrect the career of 2017’s No.1 overall pick Markelle Fultz. The team announced on Monday that they have picked up the fourth-year option, worth $12.3 million, on Fultz’s rookie contract, meaning he is now signed through the 2020-21 season.

Magic traded for Fultz in February, sending Jonathon Simmons, protected first-round pick and second-rounder to Philadelphia 76ers in exchange. The 21-year-old, however, ended up spending the rest of the season on the sidelines while he battles thoracic outlet syndrome. This injury is believed to be the reason behind Fultz’s shooting struggles which caused him to miss the better part of his first two seasons in the league.

Since the 76ers took him first overall in 2017, Fultz played a total of 33 games in the NBA during which he averaged 7.7 points, 3.4 rebound, and 3.4 assists per game.

Magic also confirmed that they have picked up options on forward Jonathan Isaac and center Mo Bamba’s contracts as well.

“Mo [Bamba], Markelle [Fultz] and Jonathan [Isaac] have each demonstrated a strong work ethic while exhibiting a commitment to team values,” – said Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman in a statement. “We look forward to exciting futures with them as part of the Magic family.”
