Madison Keys was eliminated from the WTA Elite Trophy on Wednesday after she was defeated 6-3, 7-6 (3) by Caroline Garcia in her second round-robin match. Having already lost to underdog Beatriz Haddad Maia during her first match on Monday, Keys’ hopes of progression to the semifinals were dashed following her second straight loss.

Although Keys was able to establish dominance during several phases throughout the match, serving six aces, she was unable to break the Frenchwoman’s service. It was Carcia who managed the only service break of the match during the first set.

Garcia is set to face Haddad Maia, Keys’ first opponent, on Friday in a match that will determine the winner of the Camellia group as well as who will advance to the semifinals. The winner of the Camellia group will face the winner of the Azalea group, consisting of Daria Kasatkina, Barbora Krejcikova, and Magda Linette.
