Uruguay star striker Luis Suarez has agreed to a one-year extension with Inter Miami. The new deal will keep Suarez with the MLS side through the 2025 season.
Suarez was set to become a free agent in December and his future with the club looked uncertain after the extension negotiations dragged out. However, it made sense for both sides to find an agreement. Suarez enjoys playing again with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Mesi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, while Inter would have a hard time replacing his goalscoring output from last season.
“I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family. We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy,” Suarez said in a club-released video.
Suarez joined Inter Miami on a one-year deal last December and was one of the club’s key players in 2024. With Messi dealing with injuries, Suarez took over as the focal point of the attack and scored 23 goals and added 10 assists in all competitions. He helped Inter win the Supporters’ Shield and break the MLS record for most points in a single season with 74.
Inter Miami recently also confirmed the hiring of Javier Mascherano, another of Suarez’s former Barca teammates, as their new head coach. Mascherano will replace Gerardo “Tata” Martino, who stepped away last week due to personal reasons.
