The Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the National League West division title for the eighth straight year with a 7-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

They became just the third team in MLB history to win at least eight straight division titles. The Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees are the other two.

The Dodgers also have the best record in all of baseball with 39 wins and only 16 losses and a league-leading 104 home runs. They were the first team to clinch a playoff spot nearly 10 days ago and have now officially clinched the top playoff seed in the National League.

The scene after Tuesday’s win looked like business as usual. There was no big celebration, everyone grabbed an “NL West Champs” shirt and headed out to the mound to snap a team photo. There was champagne in the clubhouse, but the celebration was quiet, with the team obviously focusing on bigger things this season.

Pitcher Dustin May had another great day on the mound, pitching for five innings and allowing just two runs on three hits. Only 22 years old, May has set a team record by not allowing more than three earned runs in any of his first 13 career starts.
