The Los Angeles Angels center Mike Trout left his first minor league rehab game after just two innings due to experiencing pain in his left knee, the team announced. This comes after Trout underwent surgery on his left knee due to suffering a torn meniscus. Following the Angels’ 5-1 triumph over the Seattle Mariners, coach Ron Washington confirmed that Trout would remain in Salt Lake City for further evaluation.

Four days after Trout tore his meniscus, he underwent surgery on his left knee. Had he completed the minor league game without hindrance, Trout would have been on the road to participating in his first major league game since the incident in April. Trout was set to play five innings against the Mariners, serving as the designated hitter before going on to play in another seven innings the following day.

Trout has been a pivotal player for the Angels, making his unavailability a major setback for the team. Considered to be a generational talent, the 32-year-old finished within the top two of the American League MVP vote on seven occasions from 2012 to 2019. Since then, however, Trout has been unable to play consistently as a result of multiple injuries. From 2021 until 2023, he played in less than half of the Angels’ games, sidelined by injuries to his right calf, left hand, and upper back.
