Toronto FC secured themselves a major depth piece on the defense as they look to challenge Columbus Crew for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The team announced on Monday that they have secured a deal for Scottish left-back Tony Gallacher, who will join on loan from Premier League champions Liverpool.

According to the official press release from the club, Gallacher will remain in Toronto for the remainder of the 2020 MLS season and will occupy the international roster spot.

Gallacher joined Liverpool back in 2018 from Falkirk FC and has been playing for the club’s U-23 side almost exclusively. He made one first-team appearance, playing in last season’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal.

“Tony is a young, promising defender that will provide us with additional depth on our backline for the remainder of the year,” said Toronto’s general manager Ali Curtis in a statement. “We feel his character and personality will fit well within our group.”

Tony Gallacher will challenge veteran Justin Morrow for the left-back spot in the starting lineup. Morrow has covered the position since 2014 and has 2020 appearances for Toronto in all competitions.
