Liverpool drew 1-1 with Fulham on Wednesday evening, earning a 3-2 victory on aggregate to progress to the Carabao Cup final. This comes after the Reds won the first leg of their semi-final 2-1.
The visitors gained an early lead through Luis Diaz in the 11th minute, however, Fulham managed to tighten up defensively, denying Liverpool further goals for the remainder of the clash. They equalized in the 76th minute Issa Diop kneed the ball into the net after receiving the ball from former Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson.
With this triumph, Liverpool have set up a Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea. While the Blues surprisingly lost their first-leg match with Middlesbrough 1-0, they ran rampant in the return fixture, thumping the underdogs 6-1 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. While Liverpool are in the running for the Premier League title, Chelsea’s underwhelming league performance and lack of European competitions have left them with few opportunities for silverware this season, giving the Carabao Cup added significance.
