Liverpool’s search for a new goalkeeper could be coming to an end. The Merseyside club bid $82m for Roma’s Alisson Becker. Roma, however, wants $90m for the 25-year-old Brazil international. Becker featured in every match during his country’s ill-fated 2018 World Cup campaign.

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp is desperate to inject some fresh blood into his squad where both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet proved unreliable in not just the last season but throughout the German’s reign at the club’s famous home, Anfield.

Matters came to a head during the 2018 Champions League final in Kyiv. Two catastrophic errors by Karius handed the celebrated trophy to Real Madrid. Klopp’s mood over his compatriot wasn’t improved last weekend. Karius cost Liverpool a goal during their narrow win over Tranmere Rovers in a pre-season friendly last weekend.

The club is already looking at Barcelona reserve goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen. The Netherlands international will replace Belgium international Mignolet.

Liverpool submitted a $30m offer for the Dutchman yesterday although he may remain in Spain. Cillessen recently commented he was happy to stay at the Nou Camp even if he remains the second choice.
