Two weeks ago, Liverpool backup goalie Adrián San Miguel was without a team going into the 2019 season after his contract with West Ham United ran out.

After signing with defending Champions League winners Liverpool just before the start of the season, Adrián was pressed into the action in the second half of the team’s Matchday 1 win over Norwich City after starter Alisson Becker suffered a calf injury.

Adrián’s incredible story continued after leading Liverpool in their UEFA Super Cup triumph over Chelsea in Istambul on Wednesday night, stopping Tammy Abraham’s shot to win the match in penalties for the Reds.

The fans went crazy after the match, storming the pitch and joining the team on the field in celebrations after the heart-stopping win. Unfortunately for Adrián, an overzealous fan dove into his ankle and injured him during the celebration.

While the injury doesn’t appear to be overly serious, it puts the veteran Spanish keeper’s status in question for tomorrow’s match against Southampton and might force Liverpool to use its third keeper for the match.

Andy Lonergan, who Liverpool inked as an emergency signing due to the team’s shortness of keepers, could be forced into action. He appeared in 7 games for League One side Rochdale last season and has never played in the Premier League.

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
