Liverpool is adding more firepower to its attack. According to reputable soccer insider Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are finalizing the signing of Italian forward Federico Chiesa from Seria A side Juventus.

Liverpool reportedly agreed to pay Juve €15 million ($16.7 million) for Chiesa’s services. The player is already in Liverpool for his medical and is expected to sign a four-year deal.  The move is expected to become official in the next few days.

Chiesa has been dubbed as one of Italy’s brightest talents in recent years, but Juve still decided to put him on the market for a discounted price this summer. The head coach, Thiago Motta, considered him a poor fit for his system, while the fact that Chiesa’s contract was set up to expire next summer also increased the urgency to get a fee for him while they can.

Liverpool, on the other hand, jumped on the opportunity to sign a talented player on the cheap and provide more depth to their already formidable front line of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez. Chiesa marks the club’s first arrival under new manager Arne Slot.

Federico Chiesa joined Juventus in 2020 on a two-year loan deal from Fiorentina, with the move becoming permanent in 2022. He made 131 appearances for Juve, scoring 32 goals and adding 23 assists while helping the club win two Coppa Italia trophies.

Chiesa has also been a key member of Italy’s national team. He has 51 senior team appearances, having scored seven goals and being part of the squad that won the UEFA European Championship in 2020.
