Liverpool is the 2019 UEFA Super Cup winners after beating fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea in Istanbul, after having more luck at the penalty shoot-out.

Chelsea was the first team that opened the score sheet in the 36th minute through Olivier Giroud. Chelsea scored a second goal shortly after, only to be disallowed due to offside by their biggest signing this summer, the USA international Christian Pulisic.

After halftime, Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp replaced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with his first striker Roberto Firmino who made an impact on the results minutes after coming off the bench by assisting for the goal scored by Sadio Mane which leveled the score in the 48th minute. Liverpool was the team that had more possession over the ball and created more chances but essentially failed to score a goal in the regular period.

Sadio Mane overturned the result by himself, scoring the second goal in the first extra period. Liverpool’s goalkeeper Adrian fouled Chelsea’s Abraham in the box allowing Jorginho to make it 2-2 from the penalty spot. At the penalty shoot-out, Liverpool scored all 5 penalties while Tammy Abraham’s penalty was saved by Adrian, granting Liverpool their 4th Super Cup title.
