The Detroit Lions suffered a tough blow in their attempts to get the first win of the 2021 NFL season. Their Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow is heading to the injured reserve list, with the franchise confirming the move on Wednesday.

Ragnow is dealing with a toe injury that he suffered in Week 4 game against the Chicago Bears and will now be sidelined for at least three weeks per IR rules.

Lions coach Dan Campbell previously hinted at this scenario while talking with reporters earlier this week.

“He’s got, basically, a version of turf toe right now is what he’s got,” Campbell explained via ESPN. “We’ll know a lot more this afternoon with him. I would say he’s probably going to be out, though.”

Ragnow is just one of several Detroit players that went down in recent weeks. The team previously lost outside linebacker Romeo Okwara and corner Jeff Okudah to season-ending injuries, while offensive tackle Taylor Decker, wide receiver Tyrell Williams, and cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu are also out.

Frank Ragnow was drafted by the Lions in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft and has since made 49 starts for the franchise. Ragnow earned the Second-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 2020 and is the league’s highest-paid center after inking a four-year, $54 million extension back in May.
