The Detroit Lions announced the signing of the NFL’s fifth all-time leading rusher on Monday, as they revealed that they had inked Adrian Peterson to a one-year deal.

Peterson’s deal with the Lions is reportedly worth $1.05 million in base salary, with variables and bonuses that could push its value even higher.

The long-time Minnesota Viking and division rival of the Lions spent the past two seasons with the Washington Football Team but was released last week in favor of younger backs.

Peterson got back on track during 2018 and 2019 with Washington after two injury-riddled and inconsistent seasons saw his stock drop in the league. He rushed for 1,940 yards and 12 touchdowns over the past two seasons, starting all but one game.

His career has been one of the most storied in history for a running back, as he has collected an NFL MVP Award, 7 Pro Bowl appearances, and 4 First-Team All Pro mentions.

The Oklahoma alum will have the opportunity to keep moving towards the top of the all-time rushing list with the Lions, a team which has promised him plenty of playing time in 2020.

The 35-year-old back is expected to begin training with the Lions this week and could make his debut for them on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
