Barcelona’s superstar Lionel Messi confirmed that he is the deadliest striker in European soccer this season as well. Messi was recently honored with European Golden Shoe, an award given to a player with most goals scored in any of Europe’s top national competition.

The 31-year-old Argentinian managed to score impressive 36 goals in 34 games he played with Barca in La Liga. His closest follower, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, finished the season with 33 goals.

This was Messi’s third straight European Golden Shoe and his six in total.

La Liga’s official Twitter profile decided to honor Messi’s achievement by sharing a compilation video of all of his 36 goals in the past season.

Although this is an achievement that any player would be thrilled to have, Lionel Messi wasn’t too keen to talk about it during his press conference on Friday. Messi told the reporters that he is still trying to wrap his head around a devastating elimination from Liverpool in UEFA Champions League semifinals.

“I am honestly not even thinking about the European Golden Shoe,” – said Messi. “It’s not in my head at all. What happened at Liverpool is, like I said it was a big blow and I am not thinking about personal things, just getting to this Copa final and winning another trophy.”
