Paris Saint-Germain winger Lionel Messi has not agreed to a move to MLS club Inter Miami, contrary to what numerous reports have said. Several reports on Sunday suggested that Inter Miami was confident about signing the 35-year-old player after the conclusion of the World Cup, however, sources close to the player have confirmed that no such agreement is in motion.

Messi has previously spoken about being open to the possibility of playing in the MLS in the future, however, he has decided to put such talks on hold until the future, choosing instead to focus on his role as captain of Argentina at the 2022 World Cup.

With Messi’s contract at PSG valid through June 2023, he also has an option for an additional year should he choose to trigger this clause. This consideration has led PSG to attempt to convince Messi to remain at the club for another season with the promise of playing in a competitive team with the chance of winning a Champions League title.

Aside from a move to the United States, Messi could choose to return to FC Barcelona, with club president Joan Laporta confirming that the club will have the financial capacity necessary to re-sign the player.
