Leroy Sané, the subject of intense transfer rumors during this preseason and one of the key members of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, is going to miss an extended period of time after suffering an ACL tear last weekend.

Sané went down thirteen minutes into Man City’s win last Sunday over Liverpool in the Community Shield competition at Wembley Stadium in London. The left-winger went down, clutching his knee and having to be replaced.

Despite missing Sané and Riyah Mahrez, City went onto win in a penalty shootout to claim the trophy.

Sané will now be forced to miss the first several months of this year’s Premier League, and at the very least the group stages of Man City’s Champions League campaign, after suffering a very unfortunate injury. Manager Pep Guardiola stated in a pre-game press conference in the lead-up to City’s first Premier League match of the season against West Ham that he doesn’t expect to see him back until February at the earliest.

The 23-year-old star is one of the standout young players of the Premier League season in 2018-19, scoring 10 goals and 10 assists in 31 games. He also notched 4 goals in the Champions League.

Man City will now wait anxiously for his return to the pitch.
