Legendary former USMNT and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is coming out of retirement. Howard decided to step on the soccer field once again, this time as a member of the USL League Championship side Memphis 901.

Howard officially retired from soccer at the end of 2019 MLS season, which he spent with Colorado Rapids. The 40-year-old, however, now changed his mind and has officially filed the paperwork for his registration on Wednesday.

“Since my retirement in October, my obsession for football has grown,” said Howard in a statement. “The desire to win continues to drive me. I love to play, and I love to compete. This gives me the opportunity to do both.”

Howard had a particularly good reason for choosing Memphis as his new club. He is a non-controlling co-owner of the team and also serves as it’s sporting director.

During his decorated career, Tim Howard spent almost 15 years playing in the Premier League, where he represented Manchester United and Everton. He also played in MLS with MetroStars (currently New York Red Bulls) and Rapids, making the MLS All-Star team three times and being selected as MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2001.

Howard was also a member of the United States men’s national team from 2002 until 2017, making 121 appearances.

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
