ESPN reported that LeBron James and his representative Rich Paul met with Los Angeles Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka on Thursday. It is believed that this meeting was arranged to discuss James’ future with the team. Paul stated that while the conversation was “productive”, further discussions would be needed to come to a conclusion.
Thursday was James’ first day of eligibility to sign a contract extension with the Lakers, which he will be able to debate until the deadline on June 30, 2023. Should he not sign an extension by this date, James will become a free agent.
To date, James’ future with the Lakers has become a major topic of debate, with a broad consensus that the player seems “hesitant” to extend his stay in Los Angeles. With dialogue between James and the team expected to continue, fans are hoping for the NBA star to sign an extension before the commencement of the 2022-23 season.
Paul, who is a representative of Klutch Sports, insists that the meeting was a productive one and seems confident that a consensus between James and the Lakers will be reached within due time.
