Lebron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo will be captains in the upcoming NBA All-Star game after the final starters for both the western and the eastern conferences were announced on Thursday.
James will captain the Western conference team while Giannis will captain the eastern team on February 7th. For now, the captains reserve the rights to name which players will start by January 31st while NBA coaches will select reserve players.
This year’s All-Stars game will have two guards and three frontcourt players from each conference. Already fans, the media and players have already voted which players will appear in the game. In the Eastern conference, Kemba Walker of the Hornets and Celtics Kyrie Irving will play as guards. Giannis, Kawhi Leonard and Joel Embiid will be frontcourt players.
In the West, Stephen Curry and James Harden will play as guards while Lebron James, Paul George and Kevin Durant will line up in the frontcourt positions. Fans contributed 50% to the voting process while players and the media each contributed 25% each.
Despite putting up big numbers, Anthony Davis missed out on a starter. He tied in points with Paul George but was weighed out through a ruling that favors the player with more fan votes. Dwyane Wade, Luka Doncic and Derrick Rose also garnered high votes from voters but missed out on starter positions after the final tallies were made.
