Toronto Maple Leafs’ will have to kick off the 2019/20 NHL season without their forward Zach Hyman. The team announced on Thursday that Hyman will undergo an ACL surgery on Monday, which will sideline him for at least six months.

Hyman tore his ACL in the first round of Stanley Cup playoffs against Boston Bruins, although he ended up playing the entire series. Maple Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs on Wednesday after suffering 5-1 loss in the decisive game 7.

Although the six-months recovery projection puts him at the track of missing out on the training camp and the first month of the upcoming season, Hyman hopes to beat these odds and return even earlier.

“We have the best recovery team here and I have the whole summer,” – said Hyman. “That’s the only bright side (of elimination), lots of time to get ready for next year.”

Zach Hyman played in 71 games of the regular season, contributing with 21 goals and 20 assists. He added one goal in the playoffs.
