Veteran free-agent linebacker Pernell McPhee is returning to the place where his NFL career kicked off. According to ESPN, McPhee agreed to a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, who drafted him back in the fifth round of 2011 draft.

Baltimore was looking to add depth to their LB core, which became depleted when Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith decided to move on in the free agency, and considered signing Justin Houston and Ezekiel Ansah before settling on McPhee. The 30-year-old spent the last year with the Washington Redskins, where he played 13 games but only managed to record 11 tackles, eight quarterback hits, two passes defended and one fumble recovery.

Pernell McPhee spent the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, becoming an important part of the team’s pass-rush rotation and winning one Super Bowl ring during that time. After becoming a free agent in 2015, he decided to sign with the Chicago Bears on a five-year deal.

Despite having a strong impact in his first season in Chicago, McPhee started struggling with the injuries and consistency which prompted the team to release him after the 2017 season.

McPhee’s NFL career stats include 193 total tackles, 31.0 sacks, six forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.
