The San Antonio Spurs have announced that they have signed power forward LaMarcus Aldridge to a three-year contract extension. Although the financial details of the deal have not been made public, according to the ESPN’s sources the deal is worth $72.3 million. The deal will keep Aldridge with the Spurs through 2020-21 NBA season. The news has been confirmed on the Spurs’ official Twitter profile.

I’m happy to be here,” – Aldridge told reporters on Tuesday. “It worked out for both sides. I feel like this preseason has been great for myself. Trying to find my rhythm, be myself. I feel like the offense has had some tweaks where I’m feeling more comfortable, helping the team. Pop [coach Gregg Popovich] told me he was happy about it.

Last season, the Spurs were not satisfied with Aldridge and his contribution. According to sources, the team has discussed several trade options that involved Aldridge but never managed to find a good fit. Although Aldridge occasionally looked in discomfort with the organization, it looks like he finally settled and is ready to help Kawhi Leonard lead the Spurs.

This place is great, great organization. They do things the right way,” Aldridge said. “Talks this summer were very constructive. … I like that Pop has been great about what I needed or wanted. So far, it’s been great.

LaMarcus Aldridge was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2006 NBA draft with a second overall pick and traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on the draft night. Aldridge made an immediate impact in his rookie season, receiving NBA All-Rookie First Team. He spent nine seasons with the Trail Blazers, before deciding to sign with the San Antonio Spurs as a free agent. Aldridge has 5 NBA All-Star selections. During his career in the NBA, he averaged 19.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1 block per game.
