The Los Angeles Lakers have locked their superstar forward Anthony Davis to a new long-term extension. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Davis inked a deal that will keep him with the franchise through the 2027-28 NBA season.

Davis previously had two years and $84 million left on his previous deal he signed back in 2020. The extension now adds three more years and $186 million to his contract. The $62 million average annual value of the extension is the highest in the history of the league.

The Lakers are yet to officially announce the extension, but Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, confirmed the news to Wojnarowski on Friday.

Davis dealt with injuries in 2022-23, being limited to 56 games in the regular season. But he was the Lakers’ best player when on the court, averaging 25.9 points and a career-high 12.5 rebounds per game. He also played a big part in the team’s run to Western Conference Finals, averaging 22.6 points, 14.1 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks in the postseason.

Anthony Davis joined the Lakers in 2019 in a blockbuster trade from the New Orleans Pelicans. He helped the franchise win an NBA championship alongside fellow superstar LeBron James in his first season in Los Angeles.
